Incoming 2nd year students
- ALL non-Italian students arriving for their studies at FUB
are required to present the declaration
of equivalent value (dichiarazione di valore), an
official document which provides a short description of the
university degree awarded for the admission to the Master, if the
awarding institution belongs to an educational system other than the
Italian one. This document issued in Italian by the competent
Italian diplomatic authorities outside Italy in the applicant's
country of origin against presentation of the following papers:
- certified photocopy of the qualification concerned;
- legal translation into Italian of the the above document.
(Paid) Research Project Opportunities
- Every year 10 EMCL students with European citizenship can visit Australia (Canberra, Sidney, Melbourne or Brisbane) up to 3 months to work on a research project, sponsored by the European Master. The study period in Australia is part of the study programme and it is fully recognised by the European Master's Program in Computational Logic. The guaranteed scholarship is of 3,100€ and it covers the travel and living expenses in Australia.
- Every year the Italian site in Rome of the IBM Center for Advanced
Studies supports up to 3 scholarships for EMCL students of
500&euro per month each to work on a research project or on the thesis
at their labs in Rome.
Available research themes:- A linguistically-motivated knowledge base for common sense
- Workpad, a European project for an Adaptive Peer-to-Peer Software Infrastructure for Supporting Collaborative Work of Human Operators in Emergency/Disaster Scenarios
- Doxastic logics for Peer-to-Peer distributed systems
- others...
- The FBK research
institute in Trento offers possibilities for internships and/or
theses at their site on the following topics:
- Collaborative ontology engineering: study effective schemata for capturing knowledge about a specific domain and its relevant processes, and their transformation in formal specification in an appropriate logic.
- Reasoning with heterogeneous ontology mappings: study in depth the relation between concepts and relations in the field of ontology integration.
- Ask your local tutor for getting a paid student job associated to a research project.
- One 10,000€ scholarship is available in 2008 to EMCL students to do the project and the thesis at Bell Labs and Rutgers University in the USA on ontologies and databases.
Second Year Scholarhips
- LLP Socrates Erasmus scholarship, which will be granted to European students for the second year of study abroad, and it is 330€ per month. Contact the International Office for more info.
- Second year students may do their project and/or their thesis with a scholarship (up to 500&euro per month) at the nearby universities Leopold-Franzens Universität Innsbruck (STI Innsbruck) and Università degli Studi di Trento. Check the BIT exchange programme web page.
Best Thesis Award
- The KRDB Research Centre invites entries for the annual “IBM & KRDB” awards for the best thesis on a Computational Logic related topic and for the best thesis on a Language and Communication Technologies related topic, which is generously presented by the IBM Center for Advanced Studies. The deadline for submission is the 15th of November every year.
